My father-in-law is a genius. Really!! Dean Kindig started his Summer Readers
reading program in 1971 and has been helping children learn to read
better every summer since. Over 45 summers he helped more
than 1100 kids. Each year more of his fun creative genius goes into
adding games and tweaking his successful program in Rochester, NY.
He has shared his games and techniques with me, Michelle Kindig, who married his amazing son, Mike, in 2000.
I am so excited to bring this program to my community in Austin, TX.

Meet the Teachers
Michelle Grimes Kindig
Michelle earned a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education and English Literature from the State University of New York. Over the past 30 years, she has taught English to middle school students at the Migrant Education Project in NY; trained adults in the field of technology in both corporate and university settings; and developed curriculum for corporate training of proprietary software for adults. She also taught English as a second language (ESL) to adults for several years, and GED preparation classes to both native and non-native English speakers of all ages. She has taught at several homeschool co-ops and enrichment academies in Austin. She and Michelle Larios co-founded the successful Austin Rising School.
In May 2006 she began homeschooling her kiddos following an eclectic holistic approach. Her daughter is now in college and her son is in ninth grade. Besides homeschooling her children, she is passionate about exploring fun, alternative, and natural ways to help children learn.
